Dear Madam,
I urge to discontinue the sale of all fur and fur-trimmed items and to institute a permanent fur-free policy.
Please join other top designers and retailers-including Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Polo Ralph Lauren, Ann Taylor, and others-who have already adopted permanent fur-free policies.
Animals trapped in the wild for their fur often suffer for days in steel-jaw traps. Many die of exposure, frostbite, shock, blood loss, or infection or are attacked and killed by predators. Mothers desperate to return to their young will often chew off a limb in an effort to free themselves. Trappers eventually return and strangle, stomp, or bludgeon any survivors to death.
Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages, where they are exposed to all weather conditions. They often go without clean water or veterinary care, and they are denied the opportunity to engage in natural behaviors like climbing, burrowing, and swimming. The intensive confinement causes many animals on fur farms to go insane. Fur farmers use the cheapest killing methods available, including neck-breaking, suffocation, poisoning, and electrocution. Many animals are electrocuted by having rods inserted into their rectums and 240 volts of electricity sent through their bodies. The animals convulse, shake, and often cry out before suffering painful heart attacks. Crude killing methods aren't always effective, and sometimes animals "wake up" while they are being skinned.
I read you know about these sufferings that goe into every fur-trimmed coat, hat, and bag, and yet the company continues to use and promote real fur.
So I will not buy any Zac Posen designs until the company makes the compassionate decision to go fur-free.
Sincerely,
‘Killing a animal to make a coat is sin. It wasn’t meant to be, and we have no right to do it. A women gains status when she refuses to see anything killed put on heir back. She’s truly beautiful’ – Doris Day
