Thank you for hearing Brigitte Bardot and million of people socked by the poor life of the elephant Maggie.
Please let her go to the sanctuary where she will have a normal life.

OPEN LETTER
Mister Director,
I am deeply socked by the news I received regarding the plight of Maggie in your zoo.
How a so-called human being can maintain an African elephant in such awful living conditions. You know that elephants are social animals, very sensitive and unable to stay in captivity just because in the wild, they love to communicate a lot between themselves, they are used to walk great distances and they spend many hours a day foraging.
How can she develop a normal behavior, living alone, standing on unheated concrete, deprived of natural sunlight because she has to stay confined in a house without fresh air during the five months of winter ?
How can you impose such an unfair life to Maggie ? Who are you to scorn the mass call of individuals and experts showing you that Maggie has the right to discover a new life in a better and more adapted place ? The conditions of your zoo are slowly sentencing her to death.
I urge you to accept her transfer to the sanctuaries which offered to welcome her. This will not cost you anything and my foundation is ready to give a financial support to this operation. In such a place, she will be able to integrate a herd, she will have a more suitable external temperature, she will have a bath with others, she will walk on the grass or in the muddy ground for the rest of her life ! She deserves that human beings give her more freedom.
Never forget she has been caught in Africa, her group has been killed… She didn’t commit any crime, so please release her !
I really hope you will hear me and that you will show that zoo’s managers can have a heart and can understand the distress situation animals can live in captivity when their basic needs can’t be appeased.
I rely on you. Don’t let me down.
Yours Faithfully,
Brigitte BARDOT
President
