Dear Prime Minister Bertie Ahern, TD
Department of the Taoiseach
Government Buildings
ou Dear Minister Mary Coughlan, TD
Office of the Minister for Agriculture & Food
Agriculture House
Throughout the European Union, there is a groundswell of public opposition
to using animals in circuses and travelling shows.
Scotland's minister for Environment and Rural Development recently announced
his intention to introduce a ban on the use of exotic animals in circuses,
and similar legislation is under consideration in Great Britain.
Compassionate citizens shun circuses which continue to subject unwilling
animals to abusive training, constant confinement and gruelling transport.
Therefore I ask you to follow the example of Scotland. Introduce a bill to
abolish the use of animals in circuses.
I hope you will take my urge into consideration,
