Ceci est une des 2 usines où on fabrique les fameux bonnets de poils d'ours
pour la garde de l'armée britannique.
Demande d'employer de la fausse fourrure. Dans le mail se trouve une vidéo
où on voit comment les ours qui ne sont pas tués tout de suite agonisent
pendant des jours. Ils souffrent de fortes douleurs et ils meurent affamés.
On leur demande aussi d'insister chez le responsable de l'armée de ne plus
employer de la vrai fourrure.

Dear Sir,

I read you make the ceremonial hats worn by the five regiments of Foot
Guards of the British Army.

Did you know that Canadian bears often die slow, painful deaths during hunts
– as many as one out of seven bears is wounded and does not die right away
when shot. Many bears who are wounded and escape later die of starvation or
blood loss and whole families of bears are often slaughtered at once.

I urge you to stop using fur to make the ceremonial hats..Please speak to
the MoD about using faux fur instead of real bearskin.

excuse for killing these magnificent animals and no excuse for profiting
from their suffering.

I'm calling is on you to stop using real bear pelts to make headpieces for
the Five Guards' Regiments.

Bears are cruelly killed for their hides. They are either shot during hunts
or ensnared - sometimes for days - in traps before hunters finally come
along and shoot them.

For nearly two centuries, the MoD has waged a war on black bears while doing
almost nothing to replace the use of bearskin with synthetic materials.

There is no justifiable excuse for bear slaughter and I ask you therofore
to immediately stop the use of bears for the Queen's Guards' headpieces.

I also request a reply from Secretary Browne as soon as possible.

Au moins, ils adressent un courrier-type. Preuve qu'ils sont assez respectueux par rapport aux personnes qui peuvent leur écrire.
D'autre part, cela suggère aussi qu'ils ont peut-être eu de nombreux mails pour leur demander de cesser la fourrure d'ours, ce qui est très positif!!

Thank you for your email to the Secretary of State for Defence expressing concern about the use of real bear fur for the ceremonial caps used by the Guards Regiments. I am replying as this issue falls within my area of responsibility.

Regrettably efforts to find a faux fur alternative to real fur have so far proved unsuccessful for a number of reasons. These have included an inability of the faux fur to retain shape when wet, the shedding of pile during normal wear and grooming and an increase in weight due to excessive water retention. The Department is continuing to work with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to try and find a suitable faux material.

Over the past four years, no pelts have had to be purchased by the contractors who manufacture the caps on behalf of the Department, following the success of the policy to refurbish, rather than replace wherever possible. In previous years, when pelts have been purchased, they have been bought from regulated fur traders operating under the jurisdiction of the Canadian authorities. To our knowledge, no pelts for use by the Guards have been “killed to order”.

The Ministry of Defence remains committed to the examination, evaluation of any sample provided by PETA, or any other supplier. The criteria that any trial material has to meet are exacting but with the importance of the ceremonial duties undertaken by the Guards, the Ministry of Defence is not prepared to compromise on standards or risk soldiers being ridiculed in public because the quality of some items of their uniform falls below the expected standard.

Please be assured that all parties are taking this matter very seriously.
